Athletes Qualify for National Finals

West Buckland School Year 10 student, Reese Robinson, has qualified for the National Schools Athletics Finals in the triple jump, whilst Year 7 and 8 students Linus Emuna, Bella Lawson, Eden Robinson and Codie and Jasmine Clark have qualified for the National Prep School Finals.

This follows their outstanding performance at the South West Championships in Exeter last weekend.

Reese Follows in Large Footsteps

Reese has some big shoes to fill, as she follows in the footsteps of former West Buckland pupil, Jonathan Edwards, who is the current triple jump world record holder.

Her jump of over 11 metres guaranteed her a place in the prestigious National Finals which will take place over two days in Birmingham in July.

Five Qualify for National Prep Finals

Five of our athletes from Years 7 and 8 have also qualified for the National Prep School Finals. They are Linus Emua (high jump), Bella Lawson (100m and relay), Eden Robinson (200m and relay), Codie Clark (300m and relay) and Jasmine Clark (relay).

Strength and Depth to our Athletics

Head of athletics, Angus Calder, is delighted with their performances. “This shows the strength and depth of our athletics squad. Nine students took part in the South West Championships and I’m so proud of the six who will be going to compete at the various levels in Birmingham. We wish them every luck and hope they enjoy it.”
