A thank you from Denmark

We received this wonderful message from the parents of Karoline, one of our international boarding students. Their message shares the experiences and growth their daughter had during her time at WBS. Here is their account of Karoline’s year with us:

We are very grateful for everything the school has done for our daughter.

West Buckland School has fully lived up to our very high expectations, and our daughter has had a wonderful year. She has improved her English tremendously and has grown in self-esteem and self-confidence. She is now ready to continue her studies in Denmark. We are sure that she will treasure her time at WBS in her heart forever and that it will contribute to her growing up to be a confident, caring and curious citizen of the world.

We believe the fact that Karoline spent her first term as a boarder at WBS at Bamfylde, where she shared a room with Mili, who has become a close and very good friend, and where Mrs Bondy looked after her in a wonderful and caring way, helped her settle in quickly to boarding life and made her start at WBS very easy.

Karoline moved to Parker’s in the second term, where the Parker’s houseparents looked after her in a very nice and caring way, which also made her feel secure and at home.

Karoline has actually felt at home at the school since day two and has made many new friends from both the UK and other countries. She is determined to keep in touch with as many as possible and has already planned a visit to Germany to see Hanna (and Angeline) next week. Mili is visiting Karoline in Denmark during the Autumn half-term, and the whole family is planning to visit Maria in Milan in November.

Karoline has enjoyed and benefited from her business, art, drama, and ESL classes, and we are very impressed by the enthusiasm, commitment, and understanding shown by her teachers. In particular, we would like to thank her business teacher, art teachers;  drama teachers; and her ESL teachers. She felt seen, understood and very inspired by all of these outstanding teachers.

Karoline has also enjoyed and benefited from all the extracurricular activities at the school. She has loved her inspiring dance lessons and being part of the dance performance team. She has also enjoyed being part of the choir, the CCF, playing netball (which she plans to continue in Denmark in the one netball club that exists there), playing football, tennis, and hockey, working out in the gym, participating in the diversity club, taking part in excursions, and taking weekend trips to Barnstable with friends from the school.

We would like to thank everyone at WBS who has been there for Karoline and who contributes to making the school a great place to learn and a great place to be.
