Stuart’s talent is diverse and impressive. Having appeared in Les Miserables and other musicals, he also has an impressive reputation singing opera.
He has performed with Sting, Lionel Richie, Beyonce, Mariah Carey and Westlife and has sung in numerous venues around the world. He was part of the trio "Tricolore" who were competitors in 2005 to be the United Kingdom`s Eurovision entry with their song "Brand New Day" which Pendred co-wrote.

Last Sunday, Luke played with the Ashmoor U18 hockey team in an intense and gruelling pool of matches with Epsom HC in National Finals. Epsom had a team with six International players.
Despite the challenges, Luke and the Ashmoor team showed true grit and determination, and triumphed to become National U18 Champions!

On Sunday, Sam B, Semesa Q, Will B, and Henry C represented West Buckland at the South Lambs trials held at Sherborne School. The boys had the opportunity to train and compete alongside other talented pupils from independent schools across the South.
A special congratulations to Semesa and Will, who were both selected to represent the South in matches against other regions at Harrow School this coming Sunday! 🎉

✨ On Monday, 9th December, the Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) hosted their Welcome Event for the new team of Young Ambassadors, featuring talented Year 12 students.
We’re thrilled that 11 students from West Buckland School applied for this prestigious programme, excelling in their interviews and making us incredibly proud with how they represented themselves and the school.
As a charity, volunteers are a critical part of the organisation and help with the work in many varied ways. Their time as a Young Ambassador will make a valuable contribution to the work of CHSW and they will support many of the fundraising activities which will enable care to be provided to children, young people and their families across the South West.
The Young Ambassadors will attend training events and may visit Little Bridge House, on occasions. The training will take place during January and will include presentation skills, fundraising codes of practice, learning about CHSW as an organisation and organising events. The Young Ambassadors will be asked to represent CHSW as a volunteer in various fundraising events.

Our Year 10 and 12 students are off to a strong start on Dartmoor with Ten Tors! 🏞️They’ve already completed a Silver/Gold Practice weekend, with Year 12 wild camping and Year 10 staying in a bunk house. Both groups have also finished the Mountain Training Hill Skills course. 👣
Last weekend, they took part in a 6-hour outdoor first aid course. 🚑
This year, we’re aiming to enter 4 teams: two 35-mile and two 45-mile teams, plus some independent students tackling the 55-mile challenge! 💪 #WBS #TenTors #OutdoorAdventures #Year10 #Year12 #Dartmoor #MountainSkills

With a whole day dedicated Drama split between the juniors in the morning, and seniors in the afternoon, there were a wide range of competitions showcasing the amazing talent in the school.
I particularly enjoyed senior Shakespeare, where many people took a more modern approach to the classic texts, with great results! Erin G gave a hilarious performance as a 1980’s Benedick in ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ and was worthy winner of the ‘Cauliflower Shield’ for Best Actor in a Shakespeare. I also enjoyed watching the improvisations, which contained a variety of both amusing and more serious pieces.
I thoroughly enjoyed the competition—congratulations to Grenville for for winning overall!

Congratulations to Issie in Year 11, who has been selected to play cricket for Devon in Sri Lanka! 🎉
Issie has been a key player on the West Buckland School Cricket A-team and previously played for the U15 Devon County Age Girls Cricket development squad. This year, she secured a place on the highly competitive U16 Devon County Age Girls Cricket team.
Next year, she will represent Devon on the U15 tour to Sri Lanka, joining 15 top players from across the county to compete internationally.

When the stormy weather rolled in last weekend, our Parkers boarders turned it into an opportunity for festive fun! Taking refuge in the warm kitchen, they baked delightful Christmas Iced Butter Cookies that were as beautiful as they were delicious.

At the end of November, our Sixth Form boys laced up their boots for a charity football match to raise funds for men’s mental health as part of Movember.
Year 12 and Year 13 teams faced off, with their managers leading the charge in an exciting and spirited match. The event drew a fantastic crowd of supporters, and additional funds were raised through the sale of chocolate and sweets on the sidelines.

On Monday, Year 10 students baked and sold 100 biscuits to raise funds for flood victims in Valencia. Thanks to Holroyd Howe for donating ingredients and providing chef support, ensuring the event`s success.
All 100 biscuits were sold, and the funds will go directly to support those in need. Well done to everyone involved!

A Bi-ennial Inspection was held on Monday 25 November 2024 for West Buckland School Combined Cadet Force (CCF) to review the achievements and progression of the Contingent.
On the crisp and colourful autumnal afternoon, 57 cadets paraded smartly in Open Order outside the front of the school, ready for their first Bi-ennial Inspection in 3 years. The parade was commanded by SSgt Noah C (Y13) under the guidance of School Staff Instructor, Flight Sergeant RAFAC Zoe Hill.
Greeted and inspected by Colonel Robert Guest TD ACF, Colonel Cadets South West, the cadets were asked about their favourite experiences so far and their future aspirations as a cadet at West Buckland School.
Accompanying Colonel Rob Guest along the inspection lines, were Service Helper, Colonel Gary Candlish (Army Regular) and Commodore RN, Andy Nelstrop, broadening the insight of the Tri-services. The Inspectors had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with cadets from both Army and RAFAC service sections, from Y9 up to Y13.
The inspectors enjoyed a buffet lunch and a presentation by Flying Officer RAFAC Liz Cwilewicz, Contingent Commander, followed by tour of the Facilities, Estate and Outdoor & Indoor Ranges.
Finally, the Inspectors had a flavour of the Best of the Cadet Experience on site, with Laser Tag command tasks, Indoor Range, Fieldcraft and the new Flight Simulator kit in the ESports suite.
Overall, the Inspectors were impressed and offered their support for the Contingent with upcoming Rifle Training courses for Bisley and Senior Cadet Instructor Courses in 2025.

On 22nd November, over 100 students from across the South West gathered at @millfieldschool to flex their problem-solving muscles in the South West Computational Thinking Cup. West Buckland School proudly entered six teams showcasing teamwork, determination and creativity in tackling a range of challenging puzzles.
From pattern matching to debugging algorithms, the day was packed with exciting tasks designed to test logical reasoning, algorithmic thinking and teamwork. Our students embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and skill!

Sushi Night Success at Parkers!
Last Saturday evening, our Sixth Form students enjoyed an incredible Sushi Night at Parkers, thanks to the culinary expertise of Mrs. Boyle.
Under her guidance, the students finely chopped fresh ingredients🍚🥑 and mastered the art of rolling and presenting beautiful plates of sushi. It was a night of learning, creativity, and delicious food, making it an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. 🍣✨ #WBS #boardingschoolsuk #sushi

The Chapel Choir will be performing at this Sunday’s Evening Service of Advent at St Michael`s Church, East Buckland, starting at 6 pm. The service will be led by our parish vicar, Rev. Cathy Scoffield. Everyone in the West Buckland School community is invited to join us. Please remember to dress warmly, as the church can be quite chilly.
