A feast of music and poetry

Pupils from both the Prep and Senior school have been immersing themselves in the delights of music and poetry, showing off their considerable skills in both areas and demonstrating the joy that can be had from both disciplines.

Musicals night at the Queen's Theatre

The West Buckland Singers, made up of pupils from Prep and Senior school, took part in a magnificent concert at the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple, on Sunday, singing well-known pieces from Les Misérables and The Greatest Showman. They were backed by the fantastic North Devon Sinfonia – an orchestra of over 70 musicians, featuring WBS pupils Becky N and Vincent B, as well as several teachers and other adults associated with the school. The concert took the audience through a wonderful TV, movie and musicals-themed repertoire.   Huge thanks to Mrs Turner for organising (and Mr Carter for conducting).

Young thespians of the future!

Last week, two WBS students took centre stage at the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple in the production of Shrek. Martha-May L in Prep 6 played the role of young princess Fiona, singing a solo in front of over 600 people daily during the 4 days. She was in good company as Reuben R in Year 9 played Shrek! Well done Martha-May and Reuben, what an achievement and a wonderful experience.

Prep House Poetry Assembly

It takes a great deal of courage and determination to stand up in front of the whole school and recite poetry but that’s exactly what members of the Prep school did in last week’s Prep House Poetry Assembly, which featured children from Nursery all the way up to Prep 6.  Those in the audience were very appreciative and encouraging and this was a fantastic way of introducing students to all different genres of poetry.
The event was adjudicated by our own Mrs Pugsley (Head of English) and Mrs Cartmell (Drama).
