After an action‑packed Exmoor Day, our community came together for another highlight of the school calendar – the Senior Sports Awards. Held at the Pier House, the evening was the perfect blend of celebration, reflection and pure West Buckland spirit.
From the moment guests arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing. Students, staff and families filled the room with warmth and excitement, ready to honour a year of dedication, teamwork and outstanding sporting achievement. The night opened with a look back at some of the standout moments from this year’s sporting calendar – a reminder of just how much our athletes have accomplished across so many disciplines.
We were also treated to a special message from OWB and Olympian Jonathan Edwards, whose words of encouragement and pride set the tone for the evening. His message was a powerful reminder of the resilience, passion and commitment that define sport at West Buckland.
Guests enjoyed delicious food as the celebrations continued, before the energy ramped up with a high‑octane raffle hosted by Mr Calder, who was very much on form and kept the room laughing and cheering throughout.
Our sports team then took to the stage for speeches that highlighted the hard work, progress and spirit shown by our students this year. Awards were presented by our Head, Mrs Lowe, and OWBA President Mrs Witheridge, recognising colours, team achievements, captains and individual excellence. Each award reflected not just performance, but character – the determination, leadership and camaraderie that make WBS sport so special.
And just when you might have thought the evening was winding down, the Sixth Form Band took over and lifted the room all over again. Despite many students still feeling the effects of running the Exmoor earlier in the day, the dance floor filled instantly. Their set brought the night to a joyful close, capturing the togetherness and energy that define our school community.
A huge thank you goes to Mrs Friend for the fantastic photos that captured the spirit of the evening, to Mr Wilson for providing sound, lights and music, and to The Pier House for hosting us so brilliantly.
It was a night that celebrated far more than trophies – it celebrated teamwork, resilience, pride and the true heart of West Buckland sport. Congratulations to all our winners, and to everyone who makes this community such an exceptional place to play, compete and grow.
