Recognition in Independent School of the Year Awards 2021

West Buckland School has, once again, been shortlisted in the prestigious Independent School of the Year awards for 2021.

Unsung Hero

The overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents and students to the school’s response to the COVID lockdowns and the support teachers were able to give to students who were having to learn at home, has culminated in the school being shortlisted in the Independent School of the Year Awards for 2021.

None of the online learning or tutor time, or one to one pastoral support on Teams would have been possible without the absolutely heroic work that happened behind the scenes by our very talented and hard working IT department.  As a result, the award that the school has been shortlisted for is the Unsung Hero award – where the entire IT team have been cited for their outstanding work.

Their speedy response to role out Microsoft Teams, train up every single member of staff and student on how to use it and ensure all members of staff had a tablet from which to teach, within three days, was simply Herculean.

Not only that, their calm approach in dealing with hiccups and queries, their ‘out of the box’ mentality in approaching new and innovative ways to use the technology to its best advantage and their determination to provide support wherever it was needed, has rightly been acknowledged.

We await to see whether they win the award (results in September) but, at this stage, we are delighted that their sterling work has been rewarded in this way.
