Immersive language trip

Food and fun with host families

This half term, a group of thirteen students from Years 10-13 set off to Murcia for an immersive Spanish language and culture trip. Everyone, including Mrs Rodriguez-Garcia and Mr Vieux, stayed with local families and enjoyed delicious meals and lively conversations with our hosts. Some students were treated so well by their host families that they didn’t want to come home!

The group also met Spanish students at two local schools in the beautiful centre of Murcia, and took part in lessons at the Instituto Hispanico de Murcia each afternoon.

Exploring Murcia and Cartagena

The students loved our week in Murcia, especially as they had time built into our schedule to explore the city of Murcia and the neighbouring city and port, Cartagena. They visited a Roman theatre, ruins and castles, all the while testing their Spanish comprehension skills by listening to excellent guides. Food was an inevitable highlight, and they loved snacking on tapas and churros as well as traditional Murcian food such as pastel de carne, which is not dissimilar to a pasty. The whole group also had a class in salsa and flamenco dancing!

Overall, a truly memorable trip, and highly recommended to anyone studying Spanish at GCSE or A-Level.
