At the heart of our tennis success is an unrivalled on‑site provision. West Buckland School boasts 19 tennis courts, enabling us to offer year‑round tennis for players of all abilities. This extensive facility ensures consistent training, competitive match play and individual development in an outstanding environment. 

Our programme is led by a highly experienced coaching team, including a Level 5 Head of Tennis and a Level 2 professional coach. Together, they bring a wealth of expertise, passion and player‑centred coaching, ensuring students receive the highest standard of technical, tactical and physical development. 

A Programme for Every Player 

Our top‑tier tennis programme is carefully designed to support students from Prep School through to Senior School, ensuring continuity, progression and long‑term development. Whether a pupil is discovering the sport for the first time or aspiring to compete at elite level, there is a clear pathway to support them. 

The programme operates across three integrated tiers: 

• School Tennis – building core skills, confidence and enjoyment 

• Squad Tennis – developing competitive players through structured training and match play 

• Performance Tennis – tailored support for high‑level and aspiring elite players 

Delivery is embedded throughout school life, with tennis offered through timetabled sports lessons, extra‑curricular activities (ECAs) and individual one‑to‑one coaching, allowing students to balance ambition with enjoyment.

Our players consistently perform at an exceptional level. Last year, our tennis team completed an unbeaten season, a testament to the depth of skill, teamwork and commitment across the programme. We also take great pride in seeing our players progress beyond school, with a recent West Buckland student competing at Junior Wimbledon, highlighting the calibre of athletes developed here.
