Our 1st team basketball have had a great start to the South West Winter League with two wins from two – Richard Huish last week winning 80-54, Taunton School yesterday winning 50-30.
West Buckland basketball has a history of being very strong for a number of years and has enjoyed a great deal of success against bigger schools. The team is hoping to continue its winning run when it meets a team from Blundell’s here next Wednesday.
In the first round of the national bowl, the rugby 1st XV boys faced a Gryphon side full of strong club players. In adverse conditions and after a long journey West Buckland started slowly, using tactics that played into Gryphon’s strengths. However, after scoring the majority of their points in the first half, our boys adapted to the conditions and began playing with more width and using their organised kick chase to compete for the ball.
Stand out performances came from Stan Kift who orchestrated three of the scores at scrum half and Alex Gard who showed his versatility once again covering on the wing
The team will now be focusing on the second round of the competition which is due to be played on 10th October and we wish them the best of luck.
Congratulations to our U13 boys tennis team who won their South West knock out match today against Bishop Wordsworth School. Having been tied at 3-3, the West Buckland team managed to squeak out a narrow victory. It was great to be back on court, despite the weather being less than conducive!
In another competition, there was more West Buckland tennis talent on display. Well done to Lilly B and Lukas N who both played for Devon in the National County Cup. The National County Cup events give players the opportunity to represent their county in a team competition for junior players from 9U to 18U. Well done to both of them.
