The U14 rugby team have been remarkable this term, having won all but three of their fixtures. This culminated in a dramatic victory in the North Devon Schools Cup against Park School this week. Having raced to an impressive 15-0 lead, they conceded 17 unanswered points before a breakaway try sealed the victory…so we all thought! The team continued to play and conceded 3 penalties in a row, giving Park four chances to use their powerful pack to score from a driving lineout. WBS repeatedly repelled Park ending in a thrilling victory. Mr Beacham and Mr Davies would like to thank and congratulate the whole squad for all their hard work this term.
At the U13 rugby festival at Mount Kelly, WBS made it to the semi final against Penryn College. An unfortunate loss saw a 3rd/4th playoff against the hosts Mount Kelly. A strong 25-0 win awarded WBS with third place, well done U13s.
The under 15s rugby team’s run in the National Vase came to an narrowly lost by three points to Kingsbridge. The team led for most of the match until Kingsbridge clinched the win with a late try. The coaches and parents are very proud of the boys’ efforts and they have another chance of silverware next week in the North Devon final at Bideford RFC under the floodlights.
However, the squad ended their 15-a-side season with a fantastic victory over Shebbear by 20 points to 19. This was a reversal of the result last season and shows how much they have improved as a team. Shebbear were leading by 9 spirit and two well worked tries sealed victory.
Our 1st XV’s enjoyed a run to the fourth round in the National Bowl competition but it sadly came to an end when the team met very strong opposition in St Peter’s RC High School, Gloucester. The final score was 30-7 to St Peter’s. The boys should be proud of their run in the competition, with some good results along the way.
